Limit to Arrogance
I
flew from Bangalore to Kochin on 6th
December. There were a lot of guests on the flight and usual the staff of the
airlines is worried and panicking. When the boarding was announced by the staff
to board the flight according to the Zone
indicated on the boarding pass. As usual the travellers are in a mighty
hurry knowing that the flight is not going to leave them behind. Many rich,
famous and poor people were in the queue. One gentleman well dressed in suit
and with a necktie was grumbling all the time and for reasons he knew best. The
security was checking the bags whether they were with tags nnd stamped by the
security. When the gentleman approached the security he frowned at them and
used some ungentlemanly words. The security respectively called him Sir and
requested to show the bag. The so called gentle man passed a remark to security
saying that she should be gentle in calling him. He further said that no wonder
you have landed in this job because of lack of education and politeness. He
showered upon her all the bad tidings. The Poor security personnel was just
smiling and with that she answered his rudeness. It was a big blow to our
gentleman who was under impression that richness and good education makes one
human. The security guide though poor and less educated than him had something
very special that is “humanness”. She kept smiling all along. I too smiled and
nodded my head in approving what she did with her smile.
Just
imagine how many such gentlemen we find at the airports who carry big heads and
swollen ones with pride and rudeness.
All these security people have to face them with a stroke of
humanness. Day of day we are losing the
basic courtesy and manners, we are becoming proud because we have a position
and authority. If Wealth and money doesn’t make us more human then it is better
not to possess them at all. I would prefer to be a simple security personnel
with a smile to take the blues of ungentlemanly people.
