The presentation on the formation was very good followed by a lively discussions. The participants had varied question and queries about the formation. The questions dealt with initial formation to ongoing formation. The formation personnel needs more formation to deal with students who come from various background and modern technological world. The emotional and sexual maturity on part of the formees and formators is very much need today. The various possibilities of higher studies in ones country could be explored. There is a need to control the use of internet as it is becoming a hurdle for the formation. Many today are not able to understand the difference between the initial formation and ongoing formation. There are friars who never attend any on going formation thinking that the priestly formation has prepared them well. It was noted by the general minister that many friars don't read books and those who have studied in Rome need to continue their research work.
The danger of sending the students to diocesan seminary is grave as the formees get all secular formation at the cost of Franciscan capuchin formation. The students are not able to live fraternal life as they experience a lot freedom and living individual life in the seminary.
The need of common formation centers is need of the hour.....a group of formators who come together from various provinces is also needed to promoted. The general minister proposed that the provincials need to visit the formators often and encourage them. Some times the formators who are scholars and intelligent might be a little critical of the situation in the province, still we need to keep visiting them.
The ongoing formation cannot be ignored at any cost. We need to defend the importance of it today. To live in a fraternity we need to have this ongoing formation. The provincials must promote ongoing formation very often.
