Theo Friary, Munnar

This friary is named after Fr. Theophany, servant of God. Munnar is the high range and hill station. It is also a tourist place. The tourists come from all over India. The house is bought some 10 years ago with some four acres of farm. They have back paper and Cardamom plantation. There are three friars who reside here. They help out in the various parishes and substations..This area of the diocese is considered to be a mission area. One friar is the parish priest who has about 5 substations to look after.
This is the closet town for the friars. They have to travel for about 10km to get to the town. In the night it is dangerous to go out as wild elephants are spotted and roam about freely.
Friars Victor(Centre) is the superior, Boniface is the parish priest and Paul Bosco is the student of B.Ed diploma....
This is black paper....it is just getting ready and within three months it will be ready to harvest....

The friary....it was a house belonged a farmer who sold it to the friars.....now it is renovated and many adjustments are made by the friars to look like a friary....very cosy house....the climate is always cool ......very comfortable for a quite retired life....away from hustle and bustle of city and town life....

This is Cardamom .....one plant survives for about 10 years if well looked after.....one plant produces about one Kilogram of Cardamom....
The plants are very delicate....you need a lot of care....plucking of the cardamom is an art ....only the local women are experts......
coffee plants.....different variety....flavor is quite different....

There is no cook ....the friars cook for themselves.....the guardian is a good cook.....

The area has some special seasonal fruits....i enjoyed them a lot....
This place is home for all three religions....it is a beautiful Mosque being built here....all three religions live in peace and harmony...
On top of the hill.....windy....so you find windmills...
