St. Joseph's Parish and Friary, Lower Kassargoad, Honnavar

The Capuchins were very active in early 50's......they were called to serve in the remotest parishes in this part of the diocese of Karwar....Capuchins as simple and obedient friars to the Church did take a challenge and developed these parishes....a lot of growth and development took places during the presences of the Capuchins.....many vocations to the priesthood as well as for the religious life came from these parishes.....today the people are very grateful to the capuchins and their missionary spirit and zeal.....this parish of st. Joseph, lower Kasargoad is given permanently to the capuchins....the friars have done marvelous work....have given their best for the parish.....this morning i spoke few words and remembered the hard work of the friars....

Br. Batpist, is the assistant and he goes about taking classes in Theology and Church History....he is well appreciated for his classes as well as for his pastoral work...

Br. Denis is the Parish priest and Guardian....he is instructing youth who are getting married in April and May....he is here for last 6 years....done a lot of community building work...

The Church is simple building....about 1000 people can sit at a time....there are 400 catholic families...there is no school of the parish neither of the Order....the diocese has a different policy.....

The parish has given about 10 Capuchins to the Order,,,,,,the faithful are very simple and God fearing....most of them are fisher folk.....some of the youth are working either in other parts of India or Gulf.....many women work in Israel as house maids.....
The Friary is close the church ....they have one marriage hall.....
This Morning's Sunday Mass....about 800 faithful for the service....
